JUNIOR/SENIOR BUDDY MENTOR PROGRAM THE MISSION The Junior/Senior Buddy Program has been in existence since 1984. In this program, children currently involved in our Afterschool Program, aged five through eleven, have the opportunity to develop a special one-on-one relationship with adult volunteers who share similar interests. This is a unique opportunity for adults 18 years and older to volunteer their time and build a trusting rapport with a child. The goal of the Junior/Senior Buddy relationship is to establish a meaningful bond through creative, nurturing, and FUN activities. We offer this program to children who otherwise might not be given the opportunity to engage in enriching activities while spending one-on-one time with an adult. All children need someone who will listen to them, stand by them and help them develop to their fullest potential. Lend your time and heart to a child whose greatest need is to be valued. In turn, you will realize your worth as a person.
THE COMMITMENT King Street asks that Junior/Senior Buddies make a minimum one-year commitment to their match. Matches generally meet weekly for two to four hours. The day and time are left to the discretion of the Senior Buddy and the Junior Buddy's family.
THE SUPPORT The coordinator of the Junior/Senior Buddy Program provides ongoing support and guidance through monthly phone calls, Senior Buddy gatherings, KSYC-organized events and readily available supervision.
