The Mission
The
Teen Futures Program has been in existence since 1996, providing youth
and their families with positive experiences and the necessary tools to achieve
success in their lives. All
children need someone who will listen to them, stand by them, and help them
develop to their fullest potential. Our
commitment is to provide support for each individual and their aspirations
towards a positive future.
The Program
The Teen Futures Program believes that
every youth needs the opportunity to be successful and to feel good about
themselves. We work to give youth
the tools and experiences that bring success and offer hope for the future. Teen Futures offers participants a myriad of program choices such as Job Club,
Kids Cafe, tennis, arts, Mind Your Music, homework help and many more.
Teen Futures is primarily comprised of
youth who "move up" from our Afterschool Program and continues our spectrum
of care for middle and high school youth. King Street
respects that teens are interested in having a strong voice in what goes on
around them. Therefore, teens are empowered to take responsibility for
planning and implementing their ideas with the support of staff.
All youth are expected to participate in
the components of the program. The goal is to be involved, have fun, and
become part of the Teen Futures family. The goal is also to successfully
complete high school and explore the possibilities of higher education with the
help and support of the Teen Futures staff.
Job Club/Kids Lemonade
Along with daily activities, youth within the program are given the opportunity
to participate in Job Club. Job Club teaches youth about the world of
work, future employment, and career opportunities. Job Club provides training for youth to learn about various
employment opportunities and to learn the proper techniques for success in
employment. Youth who participate in Job Club training are allowed to
practice their skills by working and managing Kids Lemonade, a highly regarded
seasonal business which operates on Church Street Marketplace.
